A man who bought a second-hand kitchen on eBay was shocked to find $150,000 in the cabinets.

Thomas Heller (50), from Köthen, Germany, bought the kitchen cainets on an auction site for €240. But after the man received the kitchen cabinets, he made a rather remarkable find! In total, it turned out that almost € 150,000 was hidden in the cabinets, apparently completely forgotten.

The honest finder, who is the director of a social housing project, decided to take the money to a nearby police station.

The police launched an investigation to find the kitchen’s original owner. Police spokesman Astrid Kuchta said, according to the Mitteldeutsche Zeitung, that an elderly couple was the owner.

The money belonged to a 91-year-old woman from the city of Halle, who was nursed in a care home after the death of her husband. After her death, all the furniture were sold, according to MDR.

It turned out that the eventual seller was the grandson of the deceased couple. He explained to local media that he had no idea that there was money in the kitchen cabinets.

Under German law, it is a crime to keep found cash of €10 or more.

Because Heller returned the money, he is entitled to 3 percent of the total amount, about € 4500. He does not yet know what he will do with the money.
